What is Natto?

Natto is a traditional Japanese food made from soybeans fermented with friendly bacteria. It is commonly eaten at breakfast together with rice. Natto has a strong, cheese-like smell; a nutty, salty flavour; and a sticky consistency.

What is Red Yeast Rice?

Red yeast rice is a substance made by fermenting a type of red yeast called Monascus purpureus over rice. It contains a naturally-occurring inhibitor called monacolin K (also known as lovastatin), the active ingredient in the popular statin drug, which is very effective in reducing plasma levels of TC and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C).

In addition, Red yeast rice contains other ingredients, such as large quantities of unsaturated fatty acids, flavonoids and sterols, which may also have blood lipid lowering effects.
