300 years ago, residents of the Cederberg Mountains in South Africa first discovered that this needle-shaped plant could be made into a delicious and aromatic tea. They collected it, crushed it with a hammer, and then piled it up in the sun to dry, which became the earliest Dr. Tea.

In 1904, Russian tea merchant Benjamin Ginsberg came into contact with this unique "high mountain tea" and was deeply interested in it. He also became the first exporter of Dr. Tea. In 1930, Dr. P. Nortiers studied the agricultural potential and medicinal value of Dr. Tea and planted it extensively.

In 1954, the South African Tea Board was established, which was privatized in 1993 to form Rooibos Limited. To meet the growing demand for this popular drink, Rooibos Limited has established a worldwide distribution network. Rooibos tea can be found in Germany, Japan, China, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Pacific Rim.
